Some of our products are available in accessible Portable Document File (PDF) format that could be particularly useful for disabled customers. Where a PDF version is available this will be indicated alongside the product description. Please note that all usual copyright restrictions apply.
When you order a PDF version of a product, the files will be supplied to you on a CD-ROM. To access the PDF files you need to have Adobe Reader version 6.0 or later installed on your PC. This is available as a free download. You can download the software by clicking on this link and following the onscreen instructions http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html
Accessible PDF Files
There are three levels of accessibility:
Level 1 |
User can alter text display (magnification and colour). Document may not be searchable and selectable. |
Level 2 |
User can alter text display (magnification and colour). Document is fully searchable and selectable but may not work with screen readers. |
Level 3 |
User can alter text display (magnification and colour). Document is fully searchable and selectable and is screen readable by most screen reading software. |
The accessibility level for individual PDF files is included within the product description.
Accessible PDF files have been converted to a tagged screen reader compatible format. You can read and navigate these PDFs using a screen reader in the same way that you would for a web page. A tagged format allows PDF content to reflow on smaller display devices. Even if you do not have a screen reader, you can enable content to be read aloud sequentially in the latest version of Adobe Acrobat.
Accessible PDFs support you if you are blind or visually impaired, have a cognitive learning difficulty such as dyslexia or are using a device with a small display such as a PDA.
If you require a PDF version or alternative format for a product that is not currently supplied, please get in touch with Customer Services - we may be able to help you.
