This report is the outcome of a project commissioned by the Open University Validation Services and undertaken by CHERI. The project investigated current practices and issues with regard to the appointment and remuneration of external examiners by visiting a range of institutions currently accredited and credit-rated by the Open University Validation Services. The main message in the report is that there is unanimous support for the external examiner system.
