architecture

Open University arts and humanities courses often touch on the history and development of architecture. Buildings reflect the times in which they were designed, the passions of their architects, and the culture of their location and sponsors. The changing functions of buildings are also considered, with a look at how visitors interact with the Louvre, how it has developed and how the building guides the public and manages the cultural exchange. The effect on architecture when two cultures meet is also explored, looking at examples of the synthesis of different elements to create successful hybrids.
