Science & the Public
A large range of contemporary scientific issues are of interest to a wider audience. Topics that have hit the headlines in recent years include the emergence of the cattle disease BSE and its relationship to the fatal human brain disease, vCJD, the effect of human activity of climate change, the possibilities and controversies surrounding genetic manipulation, and the creation of bio-nanotechnological devices which could be inserted into living systems. Also explored are the scientific basis for popular wisdom about medicinal plants, and the threat to our planet from asteroids and comets.
